LifeGroups at Wilmer

This is an exciting week for us here at Wilmer Baptist Church.  This  Sunday evening, we are coming together as a church for what we call “Group Link.” We will meet in the Worship Center at 5:00PM and introduce our Life Group leaders for this year.  After meeting our Life Group leaders, we move into the gym for some food, fellowship, and signup for Life Groups.  You will be able to join the Life Group of your choice.

We believe it is God’s will for us to be part of a community of faith.  We can experience community in our Life Groups as we get to know each other better in a home setting with other believers.  This is a great opportunity to interact with others and make friendships that will last a lifetime.

I sincerely hope that members of our church will pray seriously about becoming part of a Life Group. If you are thinking about joining a Life Group but haven’t committed yet, then please come and see what Life Groups are all about.  There will be no pressure to join, just an opportunity to fellowship with the church and receive some information about the dynamics of Life Groups.

This Sunday morning evangelist Scott Dawson from Birmingham, Alabama, will be preaching during our worship service. Scott is a longtime friend of our church and an anointed servant of God.  God is using this man all over America as he unashamedly shares the truth of God’s Word. Come and join us for worship as we welcome Scott to our church.

Being a Follower of Jesus

God’s plan for the ages involves calling people into a personal relationship with Christ.  Becoming a child of God through faith in the blood of Jesus is just part of God’s plan for our lives.  The call to salvation is a call to become a follower of Christ.  In the Gospels, Jesus invites us to consider His call on our lives and what it involves.  To be a follower of Christ means we have considered the cost of identifying with Jesus and surrendering our life to Him.  Jesus further said, “If anyone would be my disciple and come after me, let him deny himself daily and take up his cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24)

I believe that every truly born again believer has the desire to follow Christ and obey Him.  It is always a struggle to remain in fellowship with our Lord, but it is much easier when we are encouraged by other believers who struggle along with us.  That is why LifeGroups are so vital and so important.  They provide us an atmosphere of encouragement and acceptance and a way to grow in our faith and knowledge of the Lord.  Sunday evening, October 1st we will launch our LifeGroups with a gathering at church where you can sign up to be involved in a LifeGroup.

Our LifeGroups will meet the month of October and November and then take a break during December.  We will pick up with our LifeGroups from January to April and then take the summer off.  Everyone is strongly encouraged to be in a LifeGroup  The sacrifice you make will be rewarded with a wonderful time of growth and fellowship.  To be a church that fulfills God’s great commission, we must become disciples that make disciples, and LifeGroups are a big part of becoming better disciples.  Pray about joining a LifeGroup--you will be glad you did.
