God's Plan for This Age

In this day and age when so many things are going on in our lives, it can be hard to stay focused on spiritual things.  So much is vying for our time and attention. We often lose perspective of how we as Christians and disciples of Jesus should live. This past Sunday, I began a series of messages entitled “God’s Plan for This Age.”  I believe each of us would do well to see what the Bible teaches us about God’s plans for us and the church in this age.

Over the next few weeks I will be preaching messages that hopefully will help us to discover and discern God’s will for us. The first five books of the New Testament explain God’s will and how He relates to us by a new covenant.  We can’t really be disciples of Christ until we understand what He desires for us.

I began the series Sunday in John chapter 3, showing that Christ desires to bring us into a personal relationship with Him by offering us salvation through faith in His blood that was shed for us. What we will discover in the coming weeks is that God wants to do more with us than just save us from our sins.  He wants to take us on an incredible journey that begins when we follow Him in discipleship.  We will see how our lives can be transformed as we abide with Him, learn from Him, discover His plans for the church and how He intends to impact and reach the world through the church.

The life of a Christian should be exciting as we relate to each other in a community of faith and fellowship.  Joining regularly with other believers and sharing life with them as we serve the Lord together and see His purpose accomplished through us is thrilling.  This life of purpose and discovery as the Holy Spirit leads us to see the hand of God working among us is awesome.

Don’t forget that LifeGroups will begin with our LifeGroup launch on October 1, 2017. Over the four weeks, on Sunday mornings you'll hear some personal testimonies from men and women in our church. They'll share how being a part of a small group has changed their lives and made an impact on their walk with Christ. Everyone is encouraged to join a LifeGroup and experience the joy of Christian community as we learn to be followers of Christ and love each other.

Change of Course

The Lord understands the challenges that we face as individuals and as a church in our desire to serve Him.  He knows that we have the tendency to lose our enthusiasm and motivation for service as we live under pressure, attempting to keep our sanity with everything the world throws at us. Our devotion to Him and our excitement to be involved in His work can wane, and He has given us His words in times like these to help us refocus.

In Revelation chapters 1-5, Jesus communicates His message to the believers in the New Testament Church. He knows our works, or lack of works, and He challenges us to remember that He is our first love. He asks us to hear what He says to us through His Spirit, the Holy Spirit who lives in us and communicates with us. Christ desires that we remember our commitment to Him, repent of our failure and be steadfast in our desire to serve Him.

Our rewards will be tremendous as we overcome the challenges this world presents.  We need the Lord and each other for encouragement to remain faithful to our calling as His followers.

We find ourselves straying away at times from the devotion and commitment to spiritual things. Christ warns us against “lukewarmness.”  When we recognize that we have become lukewarm we need a change of course to get back into the will of God and find our joy and passion again to serve Him.

Our LifeGroups are designed for us to love and encourage each other as we live life together.  We can share our struggles and learn from each other in a friendly and engaging atmosphere outside the church. There is something dynamic about getting together in a home with other believers--it blesses us and helps us grow in our faith and fellowship.  We encourage everyone to be involved in a LifeGroup this fall as we begin a new season of discipleship.  On Sunday, October 1, we will have our LifeGroup Launch Night. More details about Launch Night will be coming soon, but for now we want you to begin to pray about how you can join in a LifeGroup this fall.
