Wisdom for the Ages: Ecclesiastes 8
In chapter 8 of Ecclesiastes, Solomon is talking about the limits of man. Man is not able to comprehend the mind of God and is not truly able to control his own circumstances. Solomon asked the question”Who is like a wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing?”
Solomon knew that man has limitations and is not like God. In verse 8 he says, “No one has power over the spirit to retain the spirit and no one has power in the day of death.” Solomon also knew that it will not be well for the wicked in the course of time but it would turn out well for the righteous ultimately. Solomon concluded chapter 8 by proclaiming that man may labor to discover the mysterious workings of God but will never be able to find it out. Thank God that He unveiled His mystery of salvation in Jesus and that He has redeemed us in His great mercy and Grace.
